Big Close Up

A big close up draws attention to the importance of emotion on a characters face as well as drawing a massive emphasis on it. The character at this point is shown as tired and drawn , and this is revealed clearly to the audience. we can see her features clearly especially her eyes. attention is drawn to the stethoscope around her ears, which immediately allows us to assume her job position. subsequently from associations that come form the type of job we may assume include death., major time consumption and illness. from assuming those things we can explore the range of emotions the character may be feeling clearly that are influenced by those factors. at this point we know nothing but we see shear emotion, subsequently leading to the audience feeling sympathetic towards the character. subconsciously a relationship is being built between character and audience which is influence by the lighting, use of shot in the frame as the audience can relate to the emotional values of the character.

Costume / Settings And Props.

Costume and Settings and Props are key elements involved in the batch that make "Mise-En -Scene". every piece of costume, indicates characteristics about a character r their lifestyle. settings and props indicate , seasonal occasions, period or location. Particularly in this high-key lit frame we see a christmas tree and loads of decoration. Traditionally made up tree connotes about the characters. it displays their traditional, outgoing and fun nature as well as their need to partake in traditional occasions. This comes at a time where everyone can relate to the current season. it is key to relate to the audience and current occasions, so that everything is current. The costume of the characters signifies their relaxed nature and the fact they are comfortable with each other. The audience can then also feel relaxed and relate to the characters on the screen.

Medium Close - up Shot

A Medium close- up shot shows the characters position comfortably. A lot of the time we are at a comfortable distance from the character to see an amount of body language as well as focusing on facial emotion/expression. In the frame we can see the tiredness as well as the solemness that is drawn from the emotion reflected by the character. Interestingly the distance that the camera is from character indicates emotional elements the character may hold. emotions that include loneliness or distance , which are then reinforced by her solitary position and the disinterest or discontentment and loneliness expressed by her facial expression.

Establishing Shot/ Long Shot

An establishing shot is primarily used to establish an area/ location/ setting and a characters positioning or place within that setting. by presenting a whole setting the audience are invited into the drama and into the setting to escape every day life. The setting is key, as we the audience can then assume character lifestyle. Another element that is key within the frame is the use of lighting. the lighting is high-key, this is used to set the mood of the scene and to present it as happy and lighthearted. The overuse of high key lighting within the frame suggests a clear palette a neutral setting, which connotes a fresh and new beginning. The writers may of used this cleverly to establish new characters or a new plot, or just to assume a new cast or show, so that the audience are introduced to the characters on a clear, clean slate with neutral opinions, nothing revealed as of yet.

Medium Shot

A Medium shot is used to portray the emotion, physical appearance and relationship between characters or a character in a frame. In this shot in particular it is very apparent the emotional connection between the characters is strong. you can blatantly feel the sheer pain written on the face of one of the characters faces which connotes much of the narrative that we can associate with this in particular. we can assume that one of the characters has died or is terminally ill. This is reflected by the lack of emotion shown on his face and his limp positioning. Both characters are represented in a simple but effective way, as the use of the medium shot portrays their relationship perfectly, allowing the audience to feel the effect of what is happening on screen clearly.
